SNMP Diagnostic Agent: Simple Network Management Protocol
Overview
The Trio SNMP Agent interfaces the D Series diagnostic
protocol to Network Management platforms such as SNMPC™
or HP Openview™. This allows multiple radio networks
to be diagnosed via a wide area TCP/IP network.
The SNMP Agent is a software utility which simply resides
on a PC workstation or server running under Windows NT.
Currently, the most widely used network management protocol
is SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). It is transported
by UDP (User Datagram Protocol) which is part of the IP (Internet
Protocol) stack.
D Series diagnostics is supported by the diagnostic port
on any D Series data radio or base station equipped with remote
diagnostic facilities. Diagnostic data from all radios in
a radio network can be obtained from any single radio in that
network.
Trio’s TVIEW remote diagnostic software, running
on a PC, allows a user to automatically and repetitively request
diagnostic data from all radios in a radio network, also supporting
trending, alarming and archiving of this data. However, when
multiple data radio networks interface to a central SCADA
platform via a Wide Area Network, the radio diagnostic data
must be made available to the WAN’s Network Management
platform, which monitors traditional network elements such
as servers, switches and routers. These platforms support
trending, alarming and archiving of data, and generally offer
the operator a comprehensive graphical overview of the state
of the entire network.
The SNMP Agent extracts the diagnostic data from a network
of radios by repetitively polling them, and makes it available
to the Network Management platform.
