Overview

Electricity utilities have extensive links covering hundreds of kilometers using Trio Datacom radio modems for:

• Electrical Substation SCADA monitoring. Providing high speed connectivity between substations and from control centres. The D Series radios operate with various PLC / RTU brands simultaneously.
• Pole-top field hardware monitoring and control for devices such as automatic circuit reclosers (ACR’s), gas switches and fault indicators.
• TCP/IP sessions with remote depots and full system remote diagnostics facilities.

Trio Datacom radio modems are used for wireless communications systems in power station and smelter environments where moving equipment or dangerous environments preclude the use of fixed cabling.

Victorian Electricity Authority

Trio Datacom are currently expanding the wireless data communications network of one of Victoria's largest Electricity and Gas distribution companies for the remote control and monitoring of their total electricity and pipeline infrastructure.

The original network involved monitoring and control of nearly 40 remote sites including pole top recloser and substation equipment.

The new system, which will be fully managed and operated by Trio Datacom on behalf of our customer, will initially have nearly 200 remote stations, eventually expanding beyond 300. Because the network is classed an essential service to a large, heavily populated metropolitan area, Trio Datacom will provide 24hr per day monitoring from its head office with guaranteed response and rectification times for any incidents.

Western Power

Western Power have an extensive (50+) link system covering hundreds of kilometres in its electricity distribution network.

Trio Datacom Radio Modems are used as a multistream transport backbone for Substation SCADA monitoring with various PLC brands, for TCP/IP sessions with remote depots and for full system remote diagnostics facilities.

This system also incorporates Trio Datacom's Stream Router / Multiplexer, which takes full advantage of our Stream Routing capabilities.

Brazilian State Electricity Utility

Trio Datacom E series full duplexER450 / ERFD links have been employed by a major electricity utility for a variety of projects including custody transfer of electricity across state borders and remote monitoring of thermal power plants.

It is expected that further systems will be added in the future.

Electricity Corporations of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan - India

With a combined total of 500 remote sites, the Electricity Authorities in these three Regions of India have implemented extensive automated power distribution monitoring and control systems utilising Trio Datacom's wireless data modem technology to overcome the very high cost and and almost insurmountable problems associated with linking up such large systems using wireline technology in areas that have a very high population densities.
